The details...
Groundswell presents: the Turk(ish) as part of BeNewquay Festival...
Turk(ish) is an empowering, autobiographical show by contemporary circus artist, Poppy Plowman. Combining live music, high skill, humour and intimate storytelling, Poppy uses tightwire and hair-hanging to explore personal struggles of identity and Western beauty standards. Through her story we follow Poppy as she embraces who she is, encouraging and inspiring audience members to do the same by nurturing an anti-oppressive attitude.
Poppy Plowman is a British circus artist with Turkish Cypriot origins. She has worked as a professional tightwire walker and hair hanger with several leading contemporary circus companies across Europe, before creating her own work. Here, Poppy collaborates with cellist Zara Hudson, combining their passions to create Turk(ish).
